![]() You will be able to follow their progress on their blog shortly. Ice Challenge - A Trek across Iceland in aid of Charlie's TrustIce Challenge is the fund raising effort of Leeds based Kevin Newton. He, along with a small group of colleagues, is intending to trek across Southern Iceland over 4 days and 3 nights. The adventurers, who were described on Sheffield Radio as being one young bloke who's fit, another young bloke who's not so fit, an old bloke who's fat not fit and a client of Prosperis Ltd who we're being kind about, will be setting off to complete their trek during the first weekend in October. This means that they will be subjecting themselves to temperatures of down to -20 degrees celcius, snow and ice. They will be totally self sufficient during their trek carrying all supplies of food, clothing, tents etc. with them without the help of support vehicles. If the challenge itself wasn't enough, it will be made all the more difficult as two of the group haven't been walking in summer in the UK let alone autumn/winter in Iceland. On the 9th August, they will be doing their first session walk on Pen-y-Ghent and, at the start of September, they will be attempting the Yorkshire three peaks as part of the same training regime. If anyone know's a good physio they may be needing one shortly! In the near future there will also be a 'Just Giving' website for those who wish to sponsor the challenge. Their blog can be found ON THIS WEBSITE. You can folow their experiences from the first steps on Pen-y-Ghent and compass training to glacial walking on the Icelandic highlands. |
